Pixparty allows you to do as much or as little as you like with your pictures and videos. You can host your files, share your files, host online slide shows and create online galleries. You can make friends with people or just use Pixparty by yourself as a resource. We have been online now for two years and take pride in the fact we are a safe, fun place to hang out on the net. We have put together a list of commonly asked questions about Pixparty. There are a ton of features on the site like RSS feeds, mailing users, protecting your pictures, seeing who has checked you out and more. Is this service really free?
Yes, completely free. No strings attached.
How do I subscribe to a user's RSS picture or feed?
Visit a user's pictures or videos and click on the RSS feed box.
Making Friends
If I upload files can everyone see them?
On Pixparty you get three folders: public, friends-only and private. Public pictures can be viewed by everyone. "Friends only" folders just by your direct friends and private pictures just by you.
How do I make friends?
Click on make friends on the user's profile page.
Will friends of friends be able to see my "friends only" pictures?
No, friends only pictures can only be seen by your direct friends.
How many levels of friends does Pixparty support?
We support 4 levels of friends e.g.
You > Ross > Joey > Monika > Chandler
This means you know Ross (who can see your friends only pictures), Ross knows Joey, Joey knows Monika and Monika knows Chandler. Say you want to get in touch with Chandler you can email him and say "hey I know Ross who knows Joey who knows Monika who knows you".
What happens if I want to make a friend of a friend a direct friend?
Simple click on add to friends and then you can make that person a direct friend.
Say the relationship was
You > Ross > Joey > Monika > Chandler
And you were friends with Monika, then you could ask Monika to be a direct friend and then you would have 2 new relationships:
You > Ross > Joey
You > Monika > Chandler
How can I see which friends I am connected to and which ones are direct?
Click on My friends and then click on View all. You will then see everyone you are connected to!
Hey I don't like my direct friends anymore!
Click on My friends and then delete friend you don't like any more!
Uploading and Downloading
How do I download a picture?
Click on download picture. You have the option to download 3 different sizes of the picture or the original file.
Hey, I don't want anyone to download my picture!
OK well then on My Pictures click on "prevent other users from downloading and posting".
How do I download videos?
While we do not support downloading, you can save videos in for future viewing. Simply click the 'add to favorites' button that is shown below a video when it's playing.
What are tags?
Tags are basically keywords that describe your videos. Like, if you have a sking video, you might choose to tag it with 'sking,' 'wipe out' and 'snow.' Other users that enjoy watching skiing videos can then search for 'surfing' and your video will pop up in their search results.
How do I remove a video or picture?
To remove one of your videos, simply click on My Pix and Videos Click on the 'delete pix' button next to the video you'd like to remove.
How do I change my password?
To change your password:
1. login to your Pixparty account
2. click on the 'my profile + settings' link
3. click on Change password
4. enter your old password
5. enter your new password
6. press submit
Can I change my username?
No, unfortunately you are unable to change your username.
How do I delete a comment I made on some one else's video or picture?
You can not delete a comment you made on someone else's video or picture. Once a comment has been placed on another person's video or picture it can only be removed by the person who posted the video or picture.
How do I make a video?
For starters you'll need to have a digital camera or some way to create and capture the movies somehow. Then, once you have created a movie of your own you can edit it or add music. We encourage you to edit your videos with software such as Windows MovieMaker (included with every Windows installation), or Apple iMovie. Using these programs you can easily edit your videos, add soundtracks, etc.
Can I change my username?
No, unfortunately you are unable to change your username.
How long do my videos stay on Pixparty?
Currently, we do not have any time limits or expirations on videos.
What kind of videos can I upload?
We accept any type of video content as long as it does not contain:
1. Pornography or obscene material
2. Copyrighted content (unless you own all the necessary rights)
3. Hate or graphically violent acts
If you violate these terms then your account will be terminated immediately and your files deleted. If you see a user violating these terms please report the video or file as offensive and a moderator will investigate within a few hours. Please help us keep Pixparty a fun friendly place on the net!
How long can my video be?
There is no time limit on your video, but the video file you upload must be less than 20MB in size.
What video file formats can I upload?
Pixparty accepts video files from most digital cameras and from cell phones in the .AVI, .MOV, and .MPG file formats.
How long will my video take to upload?
Depending on your connection speed and the size of the video, it can take anywhere from a few minutes to several hours to upload a video. Generally, if you have a high speed internet connection you can expect the upload to take somewhere between 1-5mins for every 1MB, so if your video is 20MB it will probably take between 20 minutes - 1 hour to upload; however, the experience is different for every user because of the variation in connection speeds.
How can I improve my videos?
We encourage you to edit your videos with software such as Windows MovieMaker (included with every Windows installation), or Apple iMovie. Using these programs you can easily edit your videos, add soundtracks, etc.
Is there a limit to how much I can upload?
The only limit is 20MB per video. We don't have any limit for the number of videos you upload, and we don't foresee adding a ceiling anytime in the future. So, get crankin' and upload as many videos as you'd like - its more content for the Pixparty community to enjoy!
How do I embed videos or pictures on ebay or my MySpace/Friendster profile?
Go to the video or picture, and use the html code underneath.
Making Galleries and Slide Shows
How do I make a gallery?
Click on my galleries. Click on create a gallery. Give your gallery a name and you are done. You can then file pictures and videos to galleries from the My Pix and Videos tab.
How do I view slideshows?
Go to a gallery and press View Slideshow.
Hey I want a full screen slide show!
Click on the "turn off the lights" button when viewing a slideshow.
Privacy and Copyright
What is your policy on copyright infringement?
Pixparty respects the rights of copyright holders and publishers and is only accepting video uploads from persons who hold all necessary rights to the uploaded material. Our policy is to respond to any notices of alleged infringement that comply with the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA). If we receive a notice or otherwise have reason to believe that content you submitted infringes another party's copyright, your account may be terminated and the video removed from Pixparty.
How can I prevent other users from seeing my email address?
Rest assured, Pixparty never displays your personal email address, nor is your email address ever displayed when another user sends you a message through the site. The only personal information a user will see about you is what you post on your profile page, as well as the public videos you upload.
What if I have been falsely accused of copyright infringement?
We'll let you know if we receive a copyright complaint about any of your video content that is hosted on Pixparty. We'll give you the opportunity to file a DMCA counter notification.
How do I report copyright infringement?
If you believe that someone else has uploaded your copyrighted content without your permission, we encourage you to contact that person in order to resolve any differences with them directly. You can also contact our support team instructions on how to submit a copyright infringement notice to Pixparty.
What are you doing to prevent content that violates your policies from appearing in Pixparty?
Although we try our best to detect and remove videos that violate our policy guidelines, our review process is primarily focused on removing adult content or obvious copyright violations, and is not bulletproof. However, we encourage our viewers to notify us when they discover policy violations or copyright issues -- we have a process for reviewing reported policy violations, and respond to reported copyright violations under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act.
